Why should labor care about Medicare for All? For the last several decades employers have waged a battle to transfer the rising cost of health insurance onto workers - a battle they often win.
Single Payer would take bargaining for health insurance off the table. Unions can instead focus negotiations on better pay, working conditions, and benefits. The stakes for striking workers would be lowered - no need to worry about your family’s health insurance being taken away.
