MA Democratic Party Support for Single Payer Reform
The Massachusetts Democratic Party Platform supports the creation of a Single Payer Health Care System for Massachusetts and the United States. The first items of the Platform on Health read:
- The Democratic Party gave the country the original single payer systems: Medicaid, Medicare, and the Veterans Health Administration.
- Massachusetts Democrats continue to advocate for a single payer health system for all citizens.
- We believe that healthcare is a fundamental right.
- We support a constitutional amendment that affirms the right to universal coverage and to quality healthcare.
This support has been included in every Massachusetts Democratic Party Platform since 1993. Additionally, the Party’s Action Agenda Committee every year prioritizes single payer reform. The first item in the Party’s current Action Agenda on Health & Human Services reads:
The Massachusetts Democratic Party will continue to work aggressively to attain a single payer health care system that provides affordable, high-quality health care coverage for all families and individuals in this state.
